Witchcraft and Women's Power

Q Use today’s and last week’s readings and video to critique the Ancient Mysteries video on witchcraft. What biases about women’s power are challenged by the documentary? What biases about women’s power are reproduced by this narrative? Is this documentary “feminist” in your view? Why or why not? Does it contribute or detract from building a vision for improving women’s health and safety in the world?

I have identified the Ancient Mysteries video important as it helps to perceive the concept of witch not as evil but as “benign and powerful, enhancing fertility and nature and the land.” (Ancient Mysteries Witches). For several instances, it has been observed that the witches are called for curing someone. On the other hand, the biases about women’s power are challenged by showing the destruction of witch practices through female body. The biases are still there although in the documentary it has been shown that in previous time women were tortured for suspecting of being demon for a particular purpose.
